Future Forum: Strengthen Young People's Role in Peace Processes

In response to the UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on young people's role in the peace processes the Swedish Institute Alexandria and Fryshuset are conducting a series of workshops in Stockholm and Alexandria with the aim to increase the participation of young people from different backgrounds in finding new solutions for Peace Building both in Sweden and in the Middle East and North Africa.

The first workshop was held in Stockholm on October 2, 2016 with young people from different backgrounds. The aim was to discuss and deconstruct conflict in society through a future-focused dialogue-based method. The participants identified and co-created new approaches on how religious and cultural diversity can counter rather than increase social and political tensions.

On 20-22 November 2016, young people from various cultural and professional backgrounds from the Middle East together with young leaders from Sweden will be given the opportunity to meet in Alexandria to jointly articulate their experiences and present ways on countering polarization. The results of the workshops will be submitted to the UN Special Envoy for Youth at a meeting in December 2016 in Alexandria.
