Tertiary Education
One of the foci of the UNESCO Engineering Initiative is to promote engineering to youth as a viable and socially-impactful career option. Currently, a lower percentage of students are choosing to pursue engineering at the tertiary level, and this will have consequences for the socio-economic development of communities, countries, and regions. The UNESCO Engineering Initiative maintains that encouraging more youth to pursue engineering at the tertiary level is of primary importance for the sustainable development of societies.
In collaboration with its partners, the UNESCO Engineering Initiative has been involved in a number of ‘hands-on’ activities and programmes to promote engineering at universities, colleges and vocational and technical schools. Through these events, students had the opportunity to develop a global awareness of engineering and its importance for social and economic development.
