Education
UNESCO reaffirms a humanistic and holistic vision of education as fundamental to personal and socio-economic development. The object of such education is envisaged in a broad perspective that aims at enabling and empowering people to meet their basic individual needs, fulfill their personal expectations, and contribute to the achievement of their communities and countries’’ socio-economic and development objectives.
In education, there are three strategic objectives:
Strategic Objective 1: Supporting member states to develop education systems to foster high quality and inclusive lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Strategic Objective 2: Empowering learners to be creative and responsible global citizens.
- Scaling up education for peace and human rights
- Promoting health through education
Strategic Objective 3: Advancing education for all (EFA) and shaping the future international education agenda.
- Leading regional (GCC countries and Yemen) dialogues on EFA and undertake foresight and research
- Monitoring sub-regional education development and implementing the right to education
- Momentum for Education Beyond 2015: Improving the Quality of Learning Outcomes and Enhancing the Performance of Educational Systems in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries
The office will continue to support the Member States of the Gulf and Yemen in the development of their capacities to face the challenges posed by education in line with National strategies and by providing technical advice.
The office will continue to support the development of Cat 2 centers in education in the GCC:
Regional Center for Education Planning in Sharjah, UAE (RCEP), the Regional Center for Quality and Excellence of education in Riyadh, KSA (RCQE), the center in ICT in Bahrain (which also covers ICT in education) in order to contribute to a network of poles of excellence in specific domains of competence of UNESCO from which all the Region could benefit.
