Youth Media

Media skills training

Participatory media has the potential to reach young leaders involved in community development and conflict transformation.

In partnership with War Child Holland, we trained 31 young people from nine communities and two states in media skills, using the material they produced for public screenings.

Their stories speak of peace while connecting generations.

Theatre in Juba

Storytelling and theatre have long been used in South Sudanese communities to raise awareness about social issues. However, the years of war have changed the social fabric, with a significant segment of adults killed, displaced or moved to other areas, making these practices less common.

Linking storytellers and performers to more modern communication channels such as radio revitalises their work and ensures they can reach and relate to new generations.

UNESCO is linking local radio with traditional storytelling and theatre performance through the Interactive Community Media for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence in South Sudan project.
