Freedom of Expression

UNESCO promotes the development of a free, independent and pluralistic media as a fundamental human right and prerequisite for democratic governance and participation of civil society through the celebration of World Press Freedom Day.

UNESCO also promotes advisory services on adaption of media legislation dealing with freedom of expression, freedom of the press as well as freedom of information and enhances dialogue among media professionals about ethics, professional standards and their working conditions.
