    Joanna Lumley has said Idris Elba could never play James Bond because he doesn’t quite fit the bill. Lumley, 71, weighed in on the debate over who should succeed Daniel Craig as the 007 agent, saying Elba, 44, doesn’t match the description of the character from the original books by Ian Fleming. Elba’s name was thrown into the ring as a possible replacement for Craig after the actor joked that he would rather �slash his wrists’ than play the secret service spy again.

    Sir Andy Murray has weighed in on underperforming rival Novak Djokovic's surprise decision to part company with the remaining members of his coaching and support staff. The 12-time Grand Slam winner, having ended his three-year partnership with Boris Becker in December 2016, mutually split with long-time coach Marian Vajda last week and also bade farewell to fitness trainer Gebhard Phil-Gritsch and physiotherapist Miljan Amanovic as part of a course of "shock therapy" that he hopes will lead to him rediscovering his missing spark on the court.

    Employers are finding it harder to fill jobs as workers become more reluctant to move jobs and EU nationals fret over future immigration rules, according to a study. The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) reported a growing Brexit influence on the jobs market. It said while demand for permanent and temporary staff continued to grow, its research among 400 recruitment agencies recorded the steepest decline in candidate availability for 16 months in April.

  • Police name girl who died on Drayton Manor's Splash Canyon ride

    An investigation has been launched into the death of an 11-year-old girl who fell into the water from a river rapids ride at a Staffordshire theme park. Evha Jannath, from Leicester, fell from the Splash Canyon ride at Drayton Manor in Tamworth. The pupil at Leicester's Jameah Girls Academy was flown to Birmingham Children's Hospital but died shortly after arriving.
