You’re Invited | Participate in U-Multirank’s 2016 Edition

logo startseite

U-Multirank is a new multi-dimensional international ranking of universities and colleges. It was first launched in May 2014; on 30 March the second edition has been published including 1,210 institutions from 83 countries.  All results and a detailed description of the methodology are freely available on our interactive web tool: www.umultirank.org.

The aim of U-Multirank is to make diversity in higher education visible. Hence it covers a broad range of institutions with different profiles and missions. Following our like-with-like approach institutions are compared to similar institutions based on a set of empirical profile data which allow to identify institutions with similar profiles.

U-Multirank is a very different form of ranking. It compares the performance of universities and colleges not only in research, but also in teaching, knowledge transfer, international orientation and regional engagement - it is a multi-dimensional ranking. Unlike other global rankings it does not produce league tables; neither does it aggregate the performance of universities in different activities into a composite score. It presents performance profiles for universities across the five dimensions using a broad range of performance indicators. U-Multirank uses publicly available information (particularly on research performance) and data from national sources wherever possible as well as information supplied by participating institutions.

U-Multirank includes an institutional ranking as well as a set of field-based rankings. Up to now seven field s have been included (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, business studies, physics, computer science, medicine, psychology). In general the field based rankings will be updated in a three year cycle. For the 2016 rankings six new fields will be added in which participation is possible for new institutions. Those fields are: mathematics, chemistry, biology, history, sociology and social work.

U-Multirank is run by a consortium of institutions with CHE Centre for Higher Education, Germany, the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), both in the Netherlands as the lead partners.

Currently the third edition of U-Multirank which will be published in March 2016 is being prepared. Universities interested in participation can register until Mid-June by completing a simple online registration form: http://www.multirank.eu/contact-us/registration-2016/.

Participation in U-Multirank is free of charge. Institutions are expected to provide data on the institution as well as on faculties/departments when participating in the filed-based rankings, too. A detailed description of the methodology and indicators, as well as the questionnaires are available online: http://www.multirank.org/#!/methodology?trackType=home&sightMode=undefined.
