2019 becomes truly historic for Kyrgyzstan people. The government of the Republic ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which joined 8 years ago, in 2011. The main feature of the Convention concluded in its suggestion of social and human rights model of understanding of disability. It recognizes the person with disabilities as an equal member of society, does not isolate him, and encourages to self-realization.
Today, the newly appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program to the Kyrgyz Republic Mrs. Louise Chamberlain, presented her credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Chingiz Aidarbekov.Handing over her credentials, Mrs. Louise Chamberlain affirmed that «The UNDP in Kyrgyzstan will continue supporting the process of consolidation of parliamentary democracy, social, economic and environmental development priorities of the National Development Strategy 2018-2040».
“Do I have to be a man to be elected to the office?”- is the slogan of one of the posters that Ms. Avazkan Ormonova, acting local council deputy, a very strong advocate for gender quotas and UNDP mentor for women-candidates has designed together with other activists when lobbying the quota legislation for local parliament.
Lawyers, part of the "Bus of Solidarity", supported by the Ministry of Justice and United Nation Development Programme Project, give free legal consultation.
