Dushanbe, 21 Aug – The Regional Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction and Implementation of Sendai Framework concluded with the adoption of Dushanbe Resolution— acall to action for the governments to strengthen the regional coordination mechanisms and consolidated support for the global disaster risk reduction agenda.
Dushanbe: On 04 July 2019 United Nations Development Programme conducted National workshop on gender aspects and development of added value chain based on genetic resources in accordance with the Nagoya Protocol and the principles of access and benefit-sharing (ABS). Representatives of governmental and scientific institutions, including the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan, National Biodiversity and Biosafety Center, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan, Pharmaceutical Center of the Academy of Medical Sciences and public organizations gathered to discuss challenges and opportunities of increasing women’s participation in the conservation of genetic resources in the country.
Khorog, June 28, 2019 – Tourism sector operators have been tasked to develop together with governmental bodies a disaster plans to provide security and safety for tourists in cases of emergency. The action has been agreed upon at the UNDP workshop in Khorog designed to strengthen cooperation between the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (COES) and private entrepreneurs in Tajikistan.
30 - May 2019 the opening ceremony of the youth innovation center took place at the Department for youth affairs and sports of Shaartuz district with participation of Chairman of Shaartuz district, His Excellency Ambassador of Japan, JICA Tajikistan representatives, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative and community members.
Schoolchildren from Tajikistan became winners of the 1th International Contest for Environmental Projects of Schoolchildren on the Problem of Climate Change.
Dushanbe, April 30, 2018 – Gender sensitivity has been identified among other challenges listed in the National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy for 2019-2030, presented at the meeting of the National Platform for Risk Reduction today in Dushanbe Plaza.
Gulrivoj Mirova, 17, has gone against the stereotypical perception of women in Tajik society by simply choosing to be an electrician. To her, it is a childhood dream come true. “I used to stand next to electricians, when they came to us [to fix something], flood them with questions and watch closely as they worked,” she says. To her village, however, it is a question of necessity.
