What works and what doesn’t in the prevention of violent extremism: discussion on UNESCO’s actions and launch of UNESCO’s latest publications

Delegates to the General Conference are cordially invited to the event organized by UNESCO’s Intersectoral team on the prevention of violent extremism (PVE) and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP). The event will feature the launch of UNESCO’s latest publications, followed by a discussion on UNESCO’s actions.

The side event will feature the launch of UNESCO’s intersectoral brochure “Preventing Violent Extremism Worldwide” and the following publications: the Education Sector’s publication “Preventing violent extremism through education: a guide for policy-makers”, the Communication and Information Sector’s publication “Youth and Violent Extremism on Social Media: Mapping the Research”, and “#YouthWagingPeace: UNESCO MGIEP’s Youth-led guide on Preventing Violent Extremism through Education” produced by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development. The launch will be followed by a discussion on what works and what doesn’t in the prevention of violent extremism from the perspectives of education, internet, youth and culture.

Linked to the side event, the Anne Frank House’s traveling exhibition “Let me be myself - The lifestory of Anne Frank” will be on display outside of room X and XI. Participants are invited to visit the exhibition after the side event.

Lunch will be provided prior to the event outside of Room II.
