Workshop on the fight against Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Property

The cross-border training workshop is addressed to relevant authorities of Montenegro and Serbia. The objectives are to raise awareness and develop professional capacities of the concerned services and authorities to contrast the theft, looting and illicit trafficking of cultural property, including through reinforced inter-agency and cross-border cooperation. Special attention will be paid to the implementation of the 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention on stolen or illegally exported cultural objects, and other relevant international standards.

Thanks to the invaluable cooperation of the Italian Carabinieri, Comando per la Tutela del Patrimonio Culturale (Cultural Heritage Protection Department) and the contribution of distinguished international resource persons, participants in this seminar will acquire information and training on a variety of topics related to the fight against illicit trafficking of cultural properties, as well as on issues such as the restitution or return of cultural objects, preventive measures and risk mitigation, awareness-raising, etc. The workshop’s speakers and trainers include senior representatives from international organizations such as UNESCO, UNIDROIT, UNODC, RILO WE, as well as from the Carabinieri and from other Italian specialized services.
