UNESCO celebrates WPFD 2017 in Peshawar

Peshawar: In just over one hour, 70 participants drafted key recommendations stemming from dynamic roundtable discussions during the celebration of the World Press Freedom Day 2017 held at the University of Peshawar.
On 3 May, students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the University of Peshawar had the opportunity to share ideas and exchange information with senior journalists, media experts, and international stakeholders on topics that are relevant for enabling freedom of expression in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and the rest of Pakistan. Read more...

UNESCO Islamabad Workshop on the Documentation and Inventorying of the Collections at Taxila Museum

Taxila, 20-22 April 2017: UNESCO Islamabad conducted a comprehensive three day workshop on the Documentation and Inventorying of the Collections at Taxila Museum. The project, funded by the Swiss
Development Cooperation, aimed at enhancing the primary functions of Taxila Museum with a particular focus on upgrading the current collections inventorying methods at the Museum onto a digital database. Read more...

National workshop on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship held in Islamabad

Islamabad, 18 February 2017: UNESCO Islamabad in collaboration with UNESCO Head Quarters and Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), organized a three-day national workshop for education stakeholders to raise awareness and understanding on the concept of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education. Aimed at ensuring that all learners are provided with the knowledge, attitudes and skills to promote sustainable development and global citizenship the workshop gathered representatives from the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, provincial/ area education officials, civil society organization, research institues, academia and youth. Read more...

World Radio Day 2017: Audience at the heart of the broadcast

During a talk show, UNESCO Representative to Pakistan, Ms. Vibeke Jensen, and Director of United Nations Information Centre, Mr. Vittorio Cammarota, stressed the importance for a greater participation of audiences and
communities in thepolicy and planning of radio broadcasting. She said "More than on-air interaction, public participation should include mechanisms such as audience engagement policies, public editors and ombudspeople, listener forums and complaints resolution procedures". Read more...

Multi-stakeholder meetings on the UNESCO 2005 convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Culture Expressions

This video presents the highlights of the UNESCO project entitled "Promoting the Right to Arts and Culture for Sustainable Development through the 2005 UNESCO's Convention for the Protection & Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions" which has been funded by the Danish Centre for Culture and Development (CKU) under the program "Promoting the Right to Arts and Culture". This program was implemented in Pakistan from June 2015 to December 2016 across various cities. CKU's support actively contributes to ensuring the access and participation of women, youth and marginalized groups in cultural activities, particularly those that have the potential to create sustainable employment and economic development. Read more...
