Biosphere Reserves for Environmental and Economic Security (BREES): A Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Program in Asia & the Pacific
- Beneficiary countries: Indonesia, Philippines, Timor-Leste, Viet Nam
- Expected Results:
  - ESD/Greening Schools in Viet Nam
  - Strengthening MAB programme in Philippines and Timor-Leste
  - Youth for Sustainable Development Award

Biotechnology School in Asia
- Beneficiary countries: Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines
- Expected Results: Graduated students from each cohort (3) to become biotechnology champions in their home-countries and increase the ability of the host countries in the region to accept and educate students from less-developed countries.

Strategic Strengthening of Flood Warning and Management Capacity of Pakistan-phase 2
- Beneficiary countries: Pakistan and Afghanistan (through training)
- Expected Results:
  - A calibrated flood and inundation forecasting model on the Eastern Rivers
  - A real-time GSMAP calibration interphase
  - A transboundary knowledge platform
  - Pakistani relevant institutions officers graduating from Japanese Master in Disaster risk Management, from Pakistani universities, hundreds trained during the different training courses in Pakistan during the duration of the project

Promoting the Malaysia-UNESCO Cooperation Programme (MUCP) at the 38th General Conference of UNESCO Round Table Discussion on: "Promoting South-South Cooperation for Sustainable Development
- Beneficiary countries: It places special emphasis on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Asia and the Pacific, and in Africa
- Expected Results: Through this event, the roundtable discussion is a good opportunity to highlight the results from the Malaysia-UNESCO Cooperation Programme (MUCP) and to stimulate the involvement of new South-South cooperation champions and actors.

Science Harnessed for ASEAN Regional Policy (SHARP)
- Beneficiary countries: The primary target beneficiaries of this project are the ASEAN countries, particularly Malaysia and Philippines.
- Expected Results:Through this project, a regional science-policy-society interface for environmental sustainability in ASEAN science programmes for the attainment of the Internationally Agreed Development Goals and responding to the challenges addressed under the Development Agenda 2030 was conducted and a policy paper on science-policy-society interface to the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science and Technology - Implementation Framework 2016-2020 has been developed.

Upscaling water security to meet local, regional, and global challenges
- Beneficiary countries: Malaysia, Philippines, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Thailand, etc
- Expected Results: Through this project, the national human and institutional capacities of developing countries are being reinforced. This should result in the design and/or implementation of policies that address the role of culture in social and economic development, particularly through the cultural industries. It is expected that this will also contribute to an enabling environment for the production and distribution of cultural goods, services and activities.

South‐South Cooperation for Enhancing Science, Engineering and Technology Standards in Asia and the Pacific
- Beneficiary countries: Asia and the Pacific: Myanmar, Papua New Guinea , Pakistan and Timor Lester. Africa: Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania
- Expected Results: Through this project 3 components will be implemented:
  - A meta‐knowledge platform in making available tools and resources for engineering, science and technology human resource development for sustainable development through Connect‐Asia;
  - Modular curricula that could be adopted by professional bodies and universities for certified training of professionals;
  - Mapping of UNESCO centres and chairs for establishing south‐south learning alliances.

Strengthening the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra through Eco-tourism
- Beneficiary countries: Indonesia
- Expected Results: Through this project, in-depth analysis of the ecotourism market in TRHS and tailor-made recommendations for ecotourism market have been developed in TRHS. Furthermore the stakeholders have improved their understanding on ecotourism management and have identified their follow up plan to implement and develop sustainable tourism.

Contributing to the integrity of the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra, Indonesia
- Beneficiary countries: Indonesia
- Expected Results:
  - Scientifically sound ecological restoration strategy introduced in selected areas;
  - Improved capacities on human-wildlife conflict mitigation
  - Reduced encroachment in TRHS and adjacent areas

To improve the management of conservation of the tropical forests of Indonesia, Philippines and Timor Leste
- Beneficiary countries: Timor Leste, Indonesia, The Philippines
- Expected Results:
  - National Park is available and used for effective management of the park.
  - Community support for conservation as well as stimulus for local socio-economic development achieved
  - Baseline information, including both spatial and numerical data on biodiversity, threats, policy framework, natural resources management, socio-cultural and economic situation in the national park is available to all key-stakeholders in appropriate formats in Timor Leste.
  - Capacities in place amongst key stakeholder groups to effectively monitor and manage the Nino Konis Santana National Park through a collaborative management approach.
  - Management Board of the Mt. Isarog NP, PAMB, has strengthened, its management functions have been reinforced and it has become familiar with the Biosphere Reserve legal framework in the Philippines.

WINGA – ASPAC International Hydrological Programme – Water Interoperability Network for Global Change Adaptation
- Beneficiary countries:
  - Member countries of the IHP Regional Steering Committee (RSC-SEAP) for Southeast Asia and the Pacific;
  - Young female and male scientists from less developed countries within the regional context, their institutions, research centres, universities, local government and communities.
  - Countries in Asia and Pacific Region.
  - Expected Results:
    - The interoperability of water networks in the ASPAC region (Regional Steering Committee Meeting for Southeast Asia and the Pacific), essential to the implementation of interlinked activities both at national and regional levels;
    - Improved knowledge in the field of Ecohydrology in Asia Pacific Region through training course, e-learning course and web-based communication and database platform.
    - Flood disaster prevention and mitigation measures in Asia and the Pacific region (including DHR and NIED);
    - The initial approach to the Urban Hydrology project with particular reference to the Sustainable Water Management in Asian Cities of the Future – Integrated Programme for Asia (SWITCH-in-Asia);
    - Capacity building through establish tremendously e-learning which participation from developing countries as well as to develop synergies between Connect-Asia and WINGA ASPAC project;
    - Developing an adaptation approach for Land-based Disasters and Hydrological Extremes using IHP programmes and water networks;
    - Promoting sustainable urban water management used learning alliances as a part of the project implementation;
    - Improved knowledge in the field of Ecohydrology in Asia Pacific Region through training course, e-learning course and web-based communication and database platform
    - Developed customised guidelines in IWRM for Asia Pacific region with particular emphasis to address challenges in Extreme Events and uncertainties against climate change using IHP programmes and water networks such as HELP, APFRIEND, GWADI, Ecohydrology, Disaster Reduction Hyperbase (DRH), and Cat II Water Centers.

COMprehensive Program to Enhance Technology, Engineering and ScieNCE Education (COMPETENCE) in Asia: The Role and Contribution of Higher Education Institutions
- Beneficiary countries: Countries in Asia-Pacific in close coordination with Other UNESCO Field Offices in the region, National Research and Education Networks (NREN) in Asia Pacific and regional engineering networks (FEASEAP, AEESEAP)
- Expected Results:
  - Coordination, collaboration and harmonization amongst regional organizations in science education increased to improve quality of science education in the region.
  - Maintaining an effective and flexible mechanism to share Asian expertise in developing and disseminating e-learning course materials and conducting science and technology R&D
  - To increase access to quality education tools and resources through the use of information and communication technology networks to deliver science and engineering education to a wider audience.

Sustainability Transformation Across the Region – STAR
- Beneficiary countries: UNESCO Office Jakarta demonstration sites have the specificity to include:
  - World Heritage Site: Angkor site in Cambodia and Ifugao rice terraces in the Philippines
  - Biosphere Reserve: Tonle Sap in Cambodia
  - Hydrology for Environment, Live and Policy: Langat river basin in Malaysia
- Expected Results:
  - Development of regional knowledge platform, tools and framework to encourage regional research committees to own and manage the research outputs adding to their own local program of activities and also set in place a process that allows this to continue beyond the life of the project;
  - Demonstration of the sustainability science approach across three demonstration projects working closely with natural and social science research disciplines and with the regional committees receiving the research outputs;
  - Liaise extensively with governments, regional professional bodies, industry associations and regional communities to secure and integrate program outputs that meet research needs and outcomes;
  - Establish and encourage where necessary appropriate business arrangements between sustainability science research and regional communities to facilitate positive change for a more resilient environment, prosperous livelihoods and better futures;
  - Assist selected regional communities to build their capacity to move to a sustainable and resilient future utilizing sustainability frameworks.

Ecological and Eco‐hydrological Solutions for Sustainable Management in Indonesia and Asia Pacific Region
- Beneficiary countries: Direct Beneficiaries of this project are scientists, government officers, decision takers, policy makers in Indonesia and Asia Pacific region.
- Expected Results:
  - - Regional strategies in promoting research in ecohydrology developed by identifying key areas of research, established demonstration sites established, and guidelines and models developed;
    - Established platform for the collaboration and exchange of scientific, technical and policy relevant information;
    - Built capacity in the region by strengthening links with existing water education network and through training;
    - Developed ecohydrology tools for Integrated Water Resources Management

Strengthening ASEAN Community 2015 through South-South Cooperation, Foresight and Capacity-building
- Beneficiary countries: Cambodia, Malaysia, Timor-Leste are selected as pilot countries. Other ASEAN Member States benefit from exchanges of best practices.
- Expected Results: Through this project, a Policy Clearinghouse through policy sharing (approaches and tools) and complied good practices and lessons learned will be developed, as well as enhanced availability and accessibility of high quality and complex analysis of current policy realities, emerging inclusive policy issues and trends, and possible future scenarios.

A Sustainable Future: Supporting Indonesia's Strategies to Address the Social Implications of Climate Change
- Beneficiary countries: Indonesia & other ASEAN Member States
- Expected Results: The project aims at contributing to the development of reliable, research-based knowledge on climate change and its effect in society. The overall goal of this project is to raise awareness of the social dimension of climate change and prepare the ground for Indonesia to address potential challenges in this area.

Promoting the Rights of People with Disabilities in Indonesia
- Beneficiary countries: Indonesia & other ASEAN Member States
- Expected Results: By the end of the project, through a series of High Level Meetings of Mayors and capacity-building workshops/trainings organized for municipal government officials and local DPOs, we will obtain an active and expanding network of local governments that work together with the disability community to enact evidence-based inclusive policies that address the needs and help fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities.

Asia-Pacific Bioethics Programme
- Beneficiary countries: Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Timor-Leste
- Expected Results: 1. Gain a thorough understanding of the state of the art of bioethics in a country that will become the beneficiary of UNESCO’s capacity building projects – Assisting Bioethics Committees (ABC) and Ethics Education for a more focused and effective implementation. 2. Build a consensus among national stakeholders on the country’s needs, and UNESCO’s interventions designed to address those needs. 3. Consolidate the capacity-building initiatives of UNESCO in bioethics, create synergies and cost-savings in their delivery. 4. Offer to the Member States a single and comprehensive bioethics capacity-building scheme to help them promote the realization of the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights.

- Expected Results: The ultimate goal of the CLCC programme is to assist the Government of Indonesia in its efforts towards improving the quality of primary schools through developing a tried-out improvement model that is affordable and replicable.

Promoting South-South Cooperation for Climate Change Education for Asia Pacific Small Island Developing States
- Beneficiary countries: Five Small Island Developing States in Asia Pacific will be targeted for the Training of Trainers- Fiji, Tuvalu, Palau, Tonga and Niue.
- Expected Results: Through this project, the capacities of SIDS in AP will be strengthened to integrate ESD into education and learning and hence will contribute to strengthening ESD in the international policy Agenda.

Fostering Tsunami Preparedness, Response and Mitigation in the Indian Ocean Small Island Developing States and African Coast Countries
- Beneficiary countries:
  Seychelles, Mauritius, Tanzania, Mozambique
- Expected Results: Through this project, the countries will move forward based on the existing capacities that have been strengthened with reference to the new development in the Indian Ocean tsunami early warning systems as well as recent tsunamis lessons learned.

- Beneficiary countries: Indonesia and Afghanistan
- Expected Results: The fundamental objectives of the project are: to support peace reconciliation and reconstruction in Afghanistan through strengthening capacity in world heritage interpretation and museum management, and to support cross cultural dialogue between Indonesia and Afghanistan through the strengthening of south-south cooperation in the field of culture.

Building national capacity for the implementation of the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions
- Beneficiary countries: Indonesia
- Expected Results: It is expected that the periodic reporting provides Indonesia to consult various stakeholders of the culture sector, identify their needs and challenges, define baseline data to be able to measure progress in the future and have a policy dialogue.

Community-based Conservation of Rock Art sites at the Nino Konis Santana National Park
- Beneficiary countries: Timor-Leste
- Expected Results: Implemented in collaboration with the State Secretariat of Arts and Culture of Timor-Leste, the activities in this project include: a survey of selected rock art sites at the Nino Konis Santana National Park, a training workshop on the conservation and management of rock art sites, and creation of a community guide to rock art safeguarding and management for local stakeholders.
