UNESCO Doha Office joins the Fourth Arab Regional SDG4 2030 Partners meeting in Tunis

UNESCO in partnership with ALECSO convened a biannual meeting of the Arab Regional Support Group for SDG4 in Tunis, on 17-18 October 2017, under the overall theme of "Strengthening Monitoring of SDG4-Education 2030 Implementation in the Arab States".

The regional Arab SDG4-Education 2030 Support Group serves as a key mechanism to strengthen coordinated support for education across the region.  It also aims to enhancing the national-regional-global nexus for effective coordination and implementation of SDG4. 

Members of the Arab Regional Support Group for SDG 4 UNESCO Headquarters and Field Offices participated in the workshop. Faryal Khan, Programme Specialist for Education, attended the 4th Arab Regional SDG4 Partners Meeting on behalf of the Education Sector from UNESCO Doha Office.

Building on the 2017 Dubai Roadmap, the meeting aimed to maintain constructive dialogue, share strategic information on Education 2030 at global and regional levels and ensure coordinated support among partners involved in the implementation and monitoring of SDG4 in the Arab Region. The meeting fulfilled the following objectives:

1.Took stock of implementation of the 2017 Dubai Roadmap and agreed on joint actions for strengthened support to Member States

2.Examined options for regional monitoring and reporting of SDG4

3.Agreed on joint regional SDG4 communication and advocacy actions

4.Agreed on some details on the next partners meeting and ARMED III

 

The expected outputs of the meeting were:

1. Revised work plan for 2017 Dubai Roadmap

2. Preparation of a regional Education 2030 report

3. Establishment of a regional task force to monitor learning in the Arab States

4. Agreement on dates of ARMED III in 2018 as contribution to HLPF 2019 review process. Advocacy and communication

For advocacy and communication, the meeting discussed opportunities for join regional advocacy actions and preparation of joint policy briefs.  Decisions relative to regional SDG4 portal were also made.
