Prime Minister of India to visit UNESCO on 10 April
Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, will visit UNESCO’s Headquarters on 10 April to meet the Organization’s Director-General, Irina Bokova, and address the diplomatic community, private sector representatives, UNESCO staff, and leading personalities, including UNESCO’s Paris-based Goodwill Ambassadors.
Accompanied by the Director-General and by India’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, the Prime Minister will offer flowers to the statue of Sri Aurobindo, the Indian philosopher, yogi and poet who took part in India’s independence campaign.
In his meeting with the Director-General, the Prime Minister will discuss cooperation between UNESCO and India, which has been an active member of UNESCO since its creation in 1946. India is, moreover, a member of the Executive Board, the governing body in charge of overseeing the work of the Organization, which will be in session at the time of the visit.
At 12.25 p.m., the Prime Minister is expected to focus on UNESCO’s contribution to the post-2015 sustainable development agenda, and will offer a reflection on the ethical and moral values that must guide the Organization’s work.
