Steps for the use of the stand-alone emblem

Request

  1. The requester completes the Request Form, and submits it for endorsement to the National Commissions for UNESCO of the Party or Parties, or to the national authorities duly designated by respective Parties, in whose territory the planned activities are to be held. 
  2. The National Commission or designated national authority reviews the request and completes theEndorsement Form.  Three months prior to the beginning of the proposed activities, the National Commissions or designated national authority forwards the Endorsement and Request Forms together with any supportive documentation, to the Convention Secretariat:

Notification

  1. The Convention Secretariat evaluates and grants requests according to the criteria stipulated in the Guidelines on the Use of the Emblem.  The Convention Secretariat provides a response to all requests.
  2. For requests that are granted, the requester will receive from  the Convention Secretariat the appropriate electronic file with the stand-alone emblem, a Brand Toolkit, and a Reporting Form.Report

Report

  1. Organizers of activities for which the stand-alone emblem has been used, must complete and submit the Reporting Form to the Convention Secretariat no later than one month after the end of the activity (six months for publications and audio-visual productions).
  2. Authorization for use of the stand-alone emblem is only granted for a single activity or event. A new request is needed for a subsequent activity.

Steps for the use of the linked emblem

The Director-General of UNESCO is empowered to authorize the use of the linked emblem in connection with patronage.  Patronage is the moral support provided by UNESCO for those events that are organized by external entities for which UNESCO is neither financially nor legally responsible. 

Request

  1. The requester completes  the Request Form, and submits it to the National Commissions for UNESCO of the Party or Parties, or other national authorities duly designated by respective Parties, in whose territory the planned activities are to be held.
  2. The National Commission or designated national authority reviews the request and forwards to the Director-General of UNESCO, the following:  

    a. The Endorsement Form they must complete, accompanied by  the Request Form and relevant supportive documents; and 
    b. A brief cover letter addressed to the Director-General.

Notification

  1. The Director-General of UNESCO evaluates and grants requests according to the criteria stipulated in the Guidelines on the Use of the Emblem
  2. For requests that are granted, the requester will receive a letter from the Director-General, along with the appropriate electronic file with the linked emblem, a Brand toolkit, and a Reporting Form. 

Report

  1. Organizers of activities for which the linked emblem has been used, must complete and submit the Reporting Form to the Convention Secretariat no later than one month after the end of the activity (six months for publications and audio-visual productions). 
  2. Patronage and authorization for use of the linked emblem are solely granted for a single event, limited in time. A new request is needed for a subsequent activity.
