The Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) is a new Center of Excellence devoted to fundamental oceanographic research in the South Pacific.
At least two full-time postdoctoral positions are available immediately at the Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) to undertake innovative research and to develop questions in any of these research lines and in association with two, or more, of IMO’s Associate Researchers. IOC cooperates with the first Advisory Opinion of ITLOS
IOC weighed in on the questions of the transfer of marine technology and conduct of marine science research to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS). In interpreting criteria and guidelines on Marine Scientific Research and Transfer of Marine Technology, the IOC advocated a precautionary approach, recognizing the importance of technology transfer, ocean preservation and the common heritage of mankind as the overall principles governing activities in the Area.

Urban Ocean Observatories
Dr. Alan Blumberg, Director of the Center for Maritime Systems (CMS) at Stevens Institute of Technology, has been invited to deliver a talk on urban maritime awareness to UNESCO stakeholders in Paris on April 12. His talk, "An Urban Ocean Observatory: Marine Observing and Forecasting in New York/New Jersey Waters," will address his experiences developing and managing maritime observation systems in the busy New York Harbor.
