Notes Tom Gross manages communications and outreach for the Global Ocean Observation System at UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. Prior to coming to IOC in 2007 worked for nearly a decade on numerical models of ecosystem dynamics and operational tidal models of the Chesapeake Bay for NOAA's Coast Survey Development Laboratory in Silver Spring, Maryland.

During part of this time, he also coordinated a Chesapeake Research Consortium program to create community owned Open Source hydrodynamic and ecosystem models for the Chesapeake Bay research community.
