This very complete and challenging project intends to make visible and intelligible the benefits of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. The first activity was the global contest “Pathways to a Culture of Peace: Global Contest for Mutual Understanding". The “UNESCO Global Contest for Mutual Understanding: Pathways to peace” was launched by the Director-General in September 2012 and involved all National Commissions for UNESCO. Around 1338 young people (14 to 18 years old) from 56 countries were mobilized. 400 works were submitted under four competing categories: essay, photography, video and graphic arts. The 8 best entries illustrating the ability of young authors to highlight the core values of the culture of peace and non-violence, including respect for diversity, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, justice and equity were awarded during the International Conference on Youth Volunteering and Dialogue held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 3rd-5th December, 2013.
 Another component of the project is also exhibitions on the theme of culture of peace and cultural diversity. Holding at UNESCO Headquarters of cross events (exhibition, projection, concert, conference), the exhibitions aimed attention at the role of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue in artistic creations. A Writing Peace exhibition involving 30 panels was launched on this occasion to display the common history of writing tools, their reality and contemporary stakes, and the means to mobilize it in order to better understand each other and share the richness of the humanities and their desire for progress and mutual understanding. Building on the success of this event, a film presenting the outputs of the exhibition was produced and is now available on YouTube.
Following this inauguration, five editions of the exhibition were realized and presented in several countries in the world.
The project team devised a multilingual catalogue on the exhibition as an advocacy booklet on cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. The material was disseminated during international conferences.
