African Deans of Education Forum

ADEF meeting, 22 August 2017

Background

The Faculty of Education, University of Pretoria, South Africa, took the initiative in 2013 to establish a platform for African deans of education. An informal structure under the leadership of Prof Irma Eloff (UP Dean at the time) was established, with the University of Pretoria hosting the Secretariat of the Forum.

The ADEF was launched in July 2013 at the DETA 2013 Conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

The ADEF has been granted a membership of UNESCO’s International Task Force on Education for All (EFA) on 22 May 2015. The Forum has an important role to play in terms of Global Goal #4 for Quality Education.
