From 26 to 28 September 2017, the UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA), in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre (SADC RPTC), hosted a 3-day workshop that addressed peacekeeping operational aspects of protecting cultural property in armed conflicts.

Thirty-five (35) participants from SADC countries attended the workshop which was held in Harare, Zimbabwe. The newly published UNESCO Military Manual and NATO heritage protection training materials were used as the basis to provide the participants with insights and a solid understanding of the legal and operational aspects of the protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflict, in the framework of the 1954 Hague Convention.
This activity was supported by the UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund.
