From 10 to 20 March 2016, the Sofia International Film Festival (Bulgaria) spreads its wings wide across the city to celebrate its 20th anniversary with international film makers and fans of big screen.

Sofia International Film Festival is the leading film festival in Bulgaria. Launched in 1997, it attracts more than 70 000 spectators annually. The Festival promotes important and innovative works of modern world cinema to local audiences as well as Bulgarian and Balkan cinema to international audiences, implementing the mission statement of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network at the local and international levels. Meanwhile, local and international filmmakers are given a chance to screen their work and to enhance cultural cooperation through the festival.

The centerpiece of this festival is varied international competitions, focused on different film formats and styles, which already have a well-recognized international influence in the filmindustry. Joining the competitions, more than 200 films, including feature films, documentaries and short films, will be projected to illustrate the power of film. Sofia is willing to work with other Creative Cities of Film to prepare next edition of the Festival to enhance it’s at the international level through the cooperation within and between cities of the Network.
