Book Donation Programme

The Marie Curie Library helps individual university/research libraries/institutes in Developing Countries through the distribution of highly specialized scientific research material.

Applying for Donations

Libraries/institutes in Developing Countries may send requests via eMail to libdon@ictp.it giving the following information:

  • Full name of the librarian/head of the department
  • Complete mailing address
  • Field of interest

Donations are made to libraries/institutes only and must be made available to all students and faculty.
The Book Donation Programme does not provide support for shipping/purchasing equipment of any nature nor does it reimburse customs and/or other expenses incurred by the receiving Institute.

Distribution Through Mailing List

Material in stock is offered to libraries/institutes in Developing Countries recorded on a mailing list; priority is based on economic conditions of individual countries.
Material must be acknowledged by the librarian/head of the department.

Direct Selection by Visiting Scientists

Visiting scientists from Developing Countries may personally select available material on behalf of their library/institute on a help yourself basis.
Material must be acknowledged by the librarian/head of the department.

Acquisition of New Books

New books may at times be purchased for libraries/institutes upon request - funds permitting.
Requests are only accepted if sent by heads of departments and must include the research aspects of the institute. If approved, material is sent directly to libraries/institutes via registered M-bags.
Material must be acknowledged by the librarian/head of the department.

Donations and Contributions to the Programme

The Marie Curie Library welcomes donations from institutes/individuals wishing to help libraries/institutes in Developing Countries. Given the nature of the service, we can only accept highly specialized scientific research literature, preferably textbooks in English, French or Spanish.

Donors are kindly asked to:

  • Send a complete list of book titles to the Library
  • Send a list of journal titles and volumes to the Library (only complete volumes)
  • Inform the Library if prepared to pack material, send to libraries/institutes and pay postal costs.

Donors can either send the material to ICTP for further distribution, or ship it directly to some needy institution with our assistance. Exceptionally and funds permitting, we can provide a partial contribution towards mail expenses, only after receiving receipts/cash stubs and confirmation that books/journals have reached destination. This contribution must be agreed upon in advance.

We may need to reject offers that do not meet the requirements, or expect a financial commitment which exceeds our available funds.
