As part of the 51st session of the Executive Council of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the annual Roger Revelle Memorial Lecture will be given by Professor Walter Munk, distinguished oceanographer. He will be receiving the IOC Roger Revelle medal on this occasion.
The lecture, entitled "Roger Revelle: Friend and Mentor", will be the occasion for the professor Munk to go back over his arrival at the prestigious Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1939, and his first encounter with Roger Revelle. He will talk about their oceanographic measures and how the Doctor Revelle was already thinking in his days about climate change and world population issues. He will also present some of the projects Roger Revelle has worked on and what he has achieved throughout his career, his challenges, many successes and some failures.

When Dr. Revelle passed away, after 50 years of strong friendship, Professor Munk wrote a view on him that he will share during the lecture.

The lecture will be streamed online - English: http://webcast.unesco.org/live/floor / French: http://webcast.unesco.org/live/fr
