In 1984/10, the Wulingyuan Scenic Area was set up by the government. It includes Zhangjiajie National Park, Suoxiyu Natural Reserve and Tianzi Mountain Natural Reserve.

Another famous scenic area in Wulingyuan is Yuanjiajie, located between Suoxiyu and Tianzi Mountain. You may take an elevator to the top to enjoy the scenery around. It is strange that almost all the mountains we can see in the area have the same height.

It is found that Wulingyuan was a beach about 350 million years ago. These pleated rock formations are evidence of orogenic movements. That's why the direction of the canyon is the same. Here's a short animation demonstrating the process. Enjoy!

How amazing is the power of nature? It sets a stone slab 5 meters thick between the two peaks. This naturally formed stone bridge is 350m high and spans about 50m. It is the world's tallest natural stone bridge at present.
