Abdijkerk van Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe

De abdijkerk van Saint-Savin sur Gartempe werd ook wel de ‘Romaanse Sixtijnse Kapel’ genoemd. Dit is mede vanwege de vele mooie schilderingen uit de 11e en 12e eeuw op de kerkmuren. De muurschilderingen zijn nog in een opmerkelijke goed bewaarde staat. Het gewelf en de muren van de kerk beslaan in totaal 400 vierkante meter en zijn beschilderd met taferelen uit het Oude Testament. De kerk ligt in het Franse dorpje Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe in het departement Vienne in de regio Poitou-Charentes. De abdijkerk is de oudste hallenkerk in deze regio en staat sinds 1983 ingeschreven op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO.
