Computational physics research on applications of synchrotron radiation techniques in materials science

This line of research has been launched by ICTP in collaboration with the synchrotron light source facility in Trieste (Elettra Laboratory of Sincrotrone Trieste). The theoretical/computational research covers a variety of interesting problems which are investigated, from the experimental point of view, using synchrotron radiation. Current topics include: magnetic, charge, and orbital ordering in manganites & related strongly correlated materials; physics of surfaces, interfaces, nanostructured solids, and spintronic materials. The investigations are carried out in conjunction with the interpretation of resonant x-ray scattering, absorption, dichroism, photoemission, diffraction, and spectromicroscopy experiments.
