Italian Language Courses

Free Italian language courses are available to ICTP scientists, staff, long-term visitors, and their family members. The courses are tailored for students with little or no knowledge of the Italian language.

These courses are also open to visitors and persons associated with the organizations that are part of the Collaboration Protocol between the Comune, Province of Trieste and the scientific institutions, subject to availability. The non-ICTP participants are required to pay a fee.

The courses are conducted at ICTP in the Galileo Guesthouse's UNESCO Room by a professional teacher with broad experience. Participants in courses A and B will have to pay for the grammar book used in the classes, available from the teacher at a cost of 17 euros.

Four types of courses are organized:

• A: 50 hours over 3 months, for absolute beginners. After a completed course, a person should have an understanding of basic Italian.
• B: 100 hours over the academic year, is for participants with medium /advanced level command of Italian.
• C1: 30 hours reading and conversation class, basic level, for the purpose of practicing and improvement. Some skills, like course A, normally required.
• C2: 30 hours course tailored to improve written skills, from emails to commercial letters to report writing etc., medium to advanced level.

Participants having attended 75% of the classes in course A, or 60% in course B, may receive an attendance certificate with details about the education and training received.

Please note that a quorum of at least five students is needed to open and maintain a course.

Timetable for the academic year 2017/2018 (starting 4 September):

• A1, A2, A3: class meets Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17:30 to 19:00
• B: class meets Mondays and Thursdays from 16:00 to 17:30
• C1: class meets Tuesdays from 16:30 to 17:30
• C2: class meets Tuesdays from 15:30 to 16:30

• A3: 26 March 2018
• B: 4 September 2017
• C1 and C2: 5 September 2017
