  • From 24 to 27 October 2016, in the sidelines of the UN Security Council Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security, UN Women, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, and the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) convened 29 UN Volunteers working in conflict and post-conflict settings for a learning and strategy workshop in New York, to exchange knowledge and build their capacities for gender-responsive peacebuilding. The workshop was part of a partnership initiative by UN Women, UNV and PBSO, which aims to enhance peacebuilding initiatives by incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring women’s participation at all stages of conflict prevention, resolution and recovery. In a joint statement for International Migrants Day, 18 December, the Chair of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families, the Chair of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, and UN Women call for the development of a gender-responsive global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration that promotes and protects the human rights of all migrants, and especially women and girls. In a joint statement for Human Rights Day on 10 December 2017, the Executive Directors of UNFPA and UN Women, Natalia Kanem and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, and the Administrator of UNDP, Achim Steiner, call for the elimination of violence against women and girls, and the guarantee of all rights, including reproductive rights, for all women everywhere.
