Despite the multiple linkages between HIV/AIDS spread and the high prevalence rates of GBV through the world there have been very few programmatic efforts at the policy level to address these issues conjointly. For this reason, UNESCO has organized a workshop in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania to be held in July 2013. The workshop intended to address the linkages between GBV and HIV/AIDS in the Great Lakes region (including attention to situations of conflict and post-conflict), and to provide concrete policy recommendations for integrating national responses to both pandemics. …
China has ratified major international documents with regard to children’s rights protection. China’s domestic legislation also provides protection for a wide range of children’s rights. The reality, however, is disputable. Few accurate statistics could be obtained directly from the official source. In practice, enforcement of the treaty obligations and the legislative declarations remains a huge problem.
This Guidance Note has been developed to provide the UNAIDS Cosponsors and Secretariat with a coordinated human-rights-based approach to promoting universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support in the context of adult sex work. Sound, evidence-informed measures to address sex work constitute an integral component of an effective, comprehensive response to HIV. The Guidance Note provides clarification and direction regarding approaches by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS to reduce HIV risk and vulnerability in the context of sex work. …

Southern Africa continues to bear a disproportionate share of the global burden of HIV: 35% of HIV infections and 38% of AIDS-related deaths in 2007 occurred in this sub-region. This report grows out of the shared belief that there must be a response to the impeding HIV crisis confronting women and girls in Malaysia. The increasingly feminised nature of the HIV epidemic in the country has been linked to issues affecting women's ability to control and decide issues relating to sex. Whether as injecting drug users, housewives, migrant workers, professionals, refugees or sex workers, women and girls experience HIV and AIDS differently compared to men and boys. Officially launched in January 2004, the German-Burkinabe Sexual Health and Human Rights Programme (PROSAD) was chosen for write-up in the German HIV Practice Collection because, over the years, it has become a uniquely sustained, comprehensive and results-driven effort to protect and empower women, youth and children. It has helped raise their own and public awareness of their human rights, including their sexual and reproductive rights, and has provided them with a range of services and mechanisms that allow them to take advantage of those rights.
This report summarizes activities U.S. Government (USG) agencies are undertaking together to improve programming for highly vulnerable children and the steps they have taken and plan to take to implement Public Law 109-95. It covers the period of July 2007 through July 2008. The goal of ADITHI (Agriculture, Animal husbandry, Dairy, Industries, Tree Plantation, Handicrafts, Handlooms, Horticulture, Home-Based Workers, Integration of women in the key economic sectors) are empowerment and advancement of resoourceless women and girl children through awareness generation programmes, leadership development, livelihood and income generation programmes in key economic sectors by forming self-sustainable groups. The report recounts the experiences of ADITHI in the past fifteen years.
The goal of "GIFT for RH" project is to increase the ability of illiterate and out-of-school adolescent girls aged 10-19 living in remote regions of Nepal to make and act on informed decisions regarding their reproductive health and rights as well as to make the community and their peers aware of the same, by the girls' participating in Lalima literacy classes given in Adolescent Girls' Groups (AGGs). The programme was implemented by Aamaa Milan Kendra (Mothers' Club) with technical and financial support from Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA). …
