  9. Communication strategy: on the impact of HIV and AIDS on the prospects of attainment of other Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Zambia, 2010-2015

    HIV/AIDS is universally recognized as a threat to development worldwide.Through consultations with stakeholders, NAC undertook to develop a communication strategy as part of national HIV/AIDS advocacy strategy to increase awareness about the evidence-informed linkage between MDG 6 and all other MDGs. The purpose of the Communication strategy is to build up the knowledge of the population regarding the linkages between HIV/AIDS and the MDGs. The strategy draws on the lessons from the twin and parallel work on documenting that linkage from 1990 to 2008.

  10. Assessment of the psychometric properties of HIV knowledge items across five countries

    HIV knowledge is commonly measured in HIV prevention research and program evaluations, but rigorous measurement standards are not always applied. Using item response theory methods, we examined the psychometric functioning of five commonly used HIV knowledge questions in five countries with varying HIV prevalence. We evaluated the internal consistency and measurement invariance of the items. The items performed poorly in all samples and the scale as a whole did not perform equally across samples. …

    Donors at every level are retreating on funding commitments to HIV, and organizations working at the intersection of AIDS and rights are facing overall funding challenges. This briefing paper reports the findings of a 2012 study on HIV and human rights donor trends in Southern Africa, commissioned by the Open Society Foundations. It identifies opportunities to leverage donor support for HIV and human rights organizations, and for donor collaboration that can support them in the current funding environment.

Created by an international health research organization based in the USA, the series was designed to educate women in rural Africa about the need to protect themselves from AIDS. The aim of the survey was to obtain feedback from users of the "Stepping Stones" training package on the following topics: who exactly has been using these materials; with which groups the materials have been used, and in what numbers; how the participants in these training sessions have perceived the materials; what the participants decided to do after the training sessions, and how useful the materials have been to them.
