Better Education for Africa's Rise project (BEAR II) launched in Uganda

Uganda launched the Better Education for Africa's Rise (BEAR II) project on 15 May 2018, a joint initiative of UNESCO and the Republic of Korea, to cooperate with the five countries of Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, the United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda)

The national Steering and Technical Committees already set up by the Ministry of Education and Sports will be providing leadership and guidance in the implementation of the project at country level.

Present at the event were officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports, and heads of TVET Institutions. The representative of the Permanent Secretary Mr. Robert Odok Ocheng who is also the Director of HTVET, Ministry of Education and Sports graced the occasion to launch the BEAR II project in Uganda.

During his remarks, Mr. Odok Ocheng highlighted the need for better cooperation among all TVET stakeholders and emphasized the need for innovation and challenged Ugandans to be creative and productive, and improve the relevance, quality and perception of our technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems.

Better Education for Africa’s Rise (BEAR) is a UNESCO’s project, promoting skills development and youth employment in Africa. Its second phase, BEAR II, will be implemented from 2017 to 2021.The aim of BEAR II is to strengthen access to decent employment and generate self-employment for young people, by improving the quality, relevance and perception of the national TVET systems in the five countries.
