This document is a synopsis of information available on pilot projects initiated jointly by WHO and UNESCO. The document provides a justification and the rationale for education on AIDS at school. It looks at the formulation and design of projects. It presents project objectives, site selection, project preparation and evaluation. The document also contains briefs on projects carried out in Ethiopia, Jamaica, Mauritius and the Pacific Islands, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Venezuela.
The purpose of this study is to review existing literature on household and community HIV/AIDS coping strategies and to make policy recommendations. It is intended to serve as a background paper to stimulate discussion among the UN Theme Groups on HIV/AIDS and major stakeholders on what can be done. The focus is on sub-Saharan Africa. It is a desk review and has some limitations in coverage.

Its aim was to survey and review existing literature and other secondary sources available both outside and within Anglophone sub-Saharan Africa and to evaluate their usefulness to AIDS research and prevention.
