Delegates at the Dar es Salaam conference agreed unanimously that poverty and diseases, specifically HIV/AIDS, were two sides of the same coin and that both have to be tackled simultaneously. They agreed that the role of the public sector was pivotal to both efforts but that the public sector itself was under severe attack from the epidemic. This report presents conclusions and recommendations of participants. National delegates promised to take the message back to their home countries and strongly urge their governments to embark on public sector workplace programmes.

The AIDS pandemic has gained momentum during the past quarter century, expanding to all regions of the world. AIDS affects both the rich and the poor, but the hardest-hit countries are among the poorest in the world. Unless more vigorous actions are undertaken to combat the disease and its effects, the HIV/AIDS epidemic portends a grim future for many countries, especially the poorest countries. The report concludes that the most effective approach to thwarting the HIV/AIDS epidemic is to implement a combination of strategies that reduce risks, diminish vulnerability and mitigate impact.
This report summarizes activities U.S. Government (USG) agencies are undertaking together to improve programming for highly vulnerable children and the steps they have taken and plan to take to implement Public Law 109-95. It covers the period of July 2007 through July 2008. Share-Net recently hosted a meeting encouraging participants to talk about sex. Specifically, it examined the connections between sexual rights and each of the MDGs. The meeting involved Share-Net's members (experts in SRHR and HIV/AIDS) but also experts from other MDG areas who shared insights from their own fields. This document is the result of an afternoon of discussion in eight groups, each focusing on a different MDG.

Papua New Guinea's National Strategic Plan on HIV/AIDS 2006-2010 (NSP) recognised that gender is a key factor shaping both the epidemic and the national response to it. To ensure that the gender dimensions of the epidemic receive sufficient attention, the National AIDS Council (NAC) commissioned this National Gender Policy and Plan on HIV and AIDS (NGP). It is based on extensive consultations and research carried out between 2004 and 2006, including a gender audit of the NSP and a gender impact evaluation of the activities of the National HIV/AIDS Support Project (NHASP). …
The process for the formulation of this Strategic Plan against STIs/HIV/AIDS for 2000 - 2002 began in July 1998 with a seminar that involved ministerial representatives, NGOs, churches and private and public corporations. Having identified points of contact in the different sectors mentioned above, three other meetings were conducted.
