The Department of Health (DOH) embarked on a Project entitled Development of Behavior Change Communication (BCC) Strategy for Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy as part of its Adolescent and Youth Health and Development (AYHD) Program. This paper critically examines the evidence from recent experimental design evaluations on the impact of HIV/AIDS prevention through youth education programs in sub-Saharan Africa. It pre-specifies the study inclusion criteria, the search strategy and the methods for summarizing findings. This paper also identifies recurring flaws in the research and suggests several methods for avoiding these shortcomings in future studies. Our initial search produced 139 potential articles for review, but only six met the pre-stated study inclusion criteria. …

The report examines the way HIV/AIDS has impacted on the education sector in Eastern and Southern Africa, it also examines the adjustments the sector has made to the epidemic and the steps it has taken to slow down its transmission.
This Country paper on HIV/AIDS and Education in Namibia was presented at IIEP workshop organized in September 2000 in Paris. It describes the current status and recent trends in the Namibian education sector and provides an overview of future directions and requirements, presenting programmes on HIV/AIDS in the country and their objectives. The role of education in addressing issues of HIV/AIDS is outlined, with a particular mission of the HIV/AIDS Committee and its five years plan (2001-2006). Finally, the training needs of the Ministry of Basic Education, Sports and Culture are identified.
This review examines the existing frameworks present in the Asia-Pacific region to implement and scale up sexuality education. It includes a systematic review of over 300 national policies, laws, strategic plans on HIV, education, population and reproductive health, and youth in 28 countries in Asia and the Pacific. The review finds that there are still significant gaps across the region in terms of legal and policy frameworks. Of all types of policy documents analysed, education policies and laws were least likely to include content on sexuality education. …
This report presents the first investigation of school-based sexuality education in Asia through a human rights perspective. The study reflected in this report looked to provide new insights that could help strengthen programming by assessing how States are delivering on their responsibility to provide sexuality education in schools. The main focus is on the laws, policies and strategic plans through which governments provide the enabling environment for sexuality education.
The current paper was commissioned by UNICEF and its partners (UNFPA, UNESCO, UNAIDS) to provide advice to the AIDS Commission in Asia on policy options on how to respond to HIV/AIDS among young people, in response to a 'Policy Options Workshop' which was held in Bangkok on 4-6 January 2007. This paper aims to provide guidance to policy makers on how to respond to the HIV prevention needs of young people in Asia. In particular, it aims to set priorities for action, aimed at preventing major HIV epidemics from occurring or limiting the scope or impact of current HIV epidemics in the region.
The aim of this paper is to analyze the political feasibility and the institutional readiness and potential for integration of AIDS educational program in the school curricula in Armenia, and to provide sound recommendation for effective integration of HIV/AIDS education into comprehensive school health education. Sex and HIV education programs that are based on a written curriculum and that are implemented among groups of youth in schools, clinics, or other community settings are a promising type of intervention to reduce adolescent sexual risk behaviors. This paper summarizes a review of 83 evaluations of such programs in developing and developed countries. The programs typically focused on pregnancy or HIV/STI prevention behaviors, not on broader issues of sexuality such as developmental stages, gender roles, or romantic relationships. …
