  1. Situational analysis on the status of the sexual and reproductive health of students in tertiary institutions in the SADC region

    It is a hardy perennial of the university environment that normative consensus around large global issues such as sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) is easier to secure than the programmatic requisites. Thus, in principle, tertiary education students are included in international SRHR-related declarations and domestic policies pertaining to the education and health sectors; in practice, there is often a lack of programmatic and policy attention at institutional level, as well as a marked knowledge gap over the status of student’s sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs.

    Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) was introduced into the curriculum of Primary Schools in 1998.     This research brief describes two evidence-generation efforts undertaken by the Evidence to Action Project (E2A), of which IntraHealth is a partner, and Kenyatta University, along with support from Pathfinder International, Kenya, from 2015-2016. The first evidence-generation effort involved an assessment of select KU service delivery statistics, and the second was a qualitative research study on the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs, attitudes, preferences, and behaviors of KU students. …

    Das Nationale Programm HIV und andere sexuell übertragbare Infektionen (NPHS) 2011-2017 beschreibt die Strategie zur Prävention sowie zur Diagnose und Behandlung von HIV und anderen STI. Es basiert auf der gesetzlichen Grundlage des Epidemiengesetzes. Der Schwerpunkt der Strategie liegt auf besonders gefährdeten Gruppen und auf bereits Infizierten und ihren Partnerinnen und Partnern. Die Strategie fokussiert darauf, die Bevölkerung auf die Gefährdung der sexuellen Gesundheit zu sensibilisieren und sie zu deren Erhalt sowie zum Schutz vor sexuell übertragbaren Infektionen zu befähigen.

    The National Guideline on Cases Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), is intended for use in any setting in Nepal by health care providers (HCPs), who may be consulted by patients with symptoms suggesting STIs or who are at risk of getting STI. This guideline has been developed with the objective to enable health care workers to provide effective treatment and obtain cure; treat asymptomatic patients and/or subclinical infections; prevent or reduce future risk-taking behavior; and to ensure that the sexual partners are appropriately traced and treated.

  6. A young peer trainer's guide to provide sexual health and drug-related harm reduction education

    This guide is the result of a series of workshops conducted in 2009 and 2010 by young people in Romania, India, Mexico and Canada. During these workshops, the authors identified gaps in the information young people have regarding sexual health and drug use. They also identified the best ways to talk about drug use and sexual health among young peers. This guide provides information, practical activities, and resources to facilitate youth-led peer trainings. …

  7. The effectiveness of HIV/AIDS school-based sexual health education programmes in Nigeria: a systematic review

    HIV/AIDS is one of the most important public health challenges facing Nigeria today. Recent evidence has revealed that the adolescent population make up a large proportion of the 3.7% reported prevalence rate among Nigerians aged 15–49 years. School-based sexual health education has therefore become an important tool towards fighting this problem. This systematic review assesses the efficacy of these educational programmes and examines how future programmes and their evaluations can improve. …

  13. University-based peer health education in China: The Shantou experience

    Objective: University-based peer health education is a recent development in China. The authors evaluated a newly implemented program in the Guangdong province. Participants and Methods: In September 2006, the authors conducted a crosssectional study using self-administered questionnaires on 30 peer educators and 247 students. Results: All peer educators and the majority of student respondents positively evaluated the program.
