  3. Process evaluation of a school-based HIV/AIDS intervention in South Africa

    This paper presents a process evaluation that assessed the fidelity and quality of implementation, as well as the acceptability and subjective evaluations of a HIV/AIDS intervention among students and teachers. Methods: The process evaluation was conducted as part of a cluster randomized controlled trial of a theory- and evidence-based school HIV/AIDS intervention in Cape Town. The intervention was designed for grade 8 high school students and delivered by teachers over a six-month period.   4. Improving research quality: how good is the literature on the impact of education on HIV and AIDS?

    In order to establish an evidence base that would help inform programming and advocacy responses in the education sector, more information was needed in terms of what studies existed, their quality and any gaps in the evidence. In response, ODI was commissioned by UNAIDS to carry out a stocktaking review of research on HIV and AIDS in the education sector and assess the quality of evidence in documents.   5. Catch 'em young: a best practice case study on school based AIDS preventive education programmes in Maharashtra, India

    The State of Maharashtra has initiated AIDS education in public and private schools through three pilot projects. This document is based on these school-based AIDS education programmes for which the effectiveness in terms of increased awareness amongst the students has been evaluated by external agencies. This document describes three models of HIV/AIDS preventive education programmes, each of which has been tested for efficacy and its relevance to the Indian milieu. Some best practice guidelines are also identified.

    This document is a synopsis of information available on pilot projects initiated jointly by WHO and UNESCO. The document provides a justification and the rationale for education on AIDS at school. It looks at the formulation and design of projects. It presents project objectives, site selection, project preparation and evaluation. The document also contains briefs on projects carried out in Ethiopia, Jamaica, Mauritius and the Pacific Islands, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Venezuela.
