  5. Political Breakthrough: Mobilizing Accelerated Action to End Violence Against Women and Girls by 2015

While violence against women and girls (VAW/G) is a factor in all the MDGs, it is linked particularly closely with HIV/AIDS, as both a cause and a consequence of the pandemic. Like HIV/AIDS, violence against women and girls has complex roots, driven by socio-economic issues and gendered power dynamics. Similarly, both HIV/AIDS and VAW/G require a holistic response that cuts across sectors and stakeholders. This report assesses the programs and policies being implemented by the Global Fund, the U.S. …

  6. Will We End the HIV Epidemic? The Impact of HIV Treatment on HIV Prevention and Implications for the 2010 Replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria

This advocacy piece from the International AIDS Society argues that without sufficient treatment coverage, investments in HIV treatment and prevention will have only limited impact. Therefore, maximising coverage is the most sustainable response. By limiting new infections in the next five years, treatment costs that would otherwise continue to accrue for decades can be avoided. The author uses mathematical models to show that the potential of HIV treatment as prevention is high. …

  7. Funding common ground: cost estimates for international reproductive health

The purposes of this report are to: (1) help advocates and policymakers better understand the reproductive health cost estimates currently in circulation; (2) build advocates' and policy-makers' confidence in using estimates that reflect the specific needs they seek to address; and (3) promote more consistent use of the same numbers for the same purposes, particularly among financial requests to policy-makers including donors. This handbook will reinforce the work of the Cambodia National Assembly and Senate in response to the epidemic, in which they have been engaged since 2006 with the support of UNAIDS and UNDP. Unlike any other contemporary pandemic, HIV and AIDS cannot be seen as merely a health concern for a population. Governments must recognize the complex economic, social and humanitarian pressures that come with a maturing and evolving epidemic.
