This paper maps the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices surrounding menarche, menstrual hygiene and menstrual health among adolescent girls in low and middle income countries in order to inform the future design of relevant policies and programming. Young people in Uganda have significant unmet sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs. This is particularly the case for young people from key populations. The prevalence of HIV among sex workers of all ages is between 35% and 37%, five times higher than the general population. Sex workers also face other serious sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) issues, including high rates of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
