  1. Gender assessment of the national response to HIV/AIDS in Nigeria

    The assessment, aimed at understanding gender dynamics critical for successful implementation of HIV and AIDS programmes in Nigeria, is to complement the National Strategic Plan (NSP) 2010-2015. Findings will be used to strengthen and consolidate existing HIV and AIDS control efforts at all levels and contribute to the implementation of the NSP and PCRP (President's Comprehensive Response Plan for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria).

  8. HIV/AIDS interventions in Bangladesh: What can application of a social exclusion framework tell us?

    Bangladesh has maintained a low HIV prevalence (of less than 1%) despite multiple risk factors. However, recent serological surveillance data have reported very high levels of HIV infection among a subgroup of male injecting drug-users (IDUs).     O presente artigo questiona o papel da mídia diante da epidemia do HIV/Aids. Toda a discussão é travada à luz da bioética, tentando sempre apreender os dilemas morais subjacentes nas mensagens de prevenção do HIV/Aids. Pautar se a mídia considerou os rumos da epidemia na medida em que essa ia se modificando; refletir se as campanhas educativas do HIV/Aids ponderavam as assimetrias de gênero, a sexualidade e os processos de socialização.

  12. Getting sensitive. Helping civil society groups gain funding for gender-sensitive HIV programmes. An Exploratory Project in Malawi and Uganda

    In sub-Saharan Africa, home to two-thirds of all people living with HIV, 60% are now women. In some regions, women account for increasing percentages of all infections, especially young women (aged 15 to 24), who are particularly vulnerable. In sub-Saharan Africa, their risk of HIV infection is three to five times higher than that of young men (UNAIDS, 2008).     Se describen las mejores prácticas realizadas en la Argentina por organizaciones de gobierno, nacionales y jurisdiccionales, con la finalidad de dar respuesta a la epidemia del VIH/sida al año 2006. Se destacanáaquellas acciones gubernamentales de prevención, atención, tratamiento del VIH/sida realizadas desde la perspectiva de género y derechos humanos. Se realiza una breve síntesis de la situación de la epidemia en la Argentina así como la reseña de las mejores prácticas seleccionadas. En calidad de anexo se adjunta la información relativa al marco normativo nacional vinculado al VIH/sida.

    The programme provides an overview of AIDS work in Switzerland, the current situation, the challenges to be faced, and serves as reference for players active in the HIV/AIDS field. It confirms the existing direction of AIDS work in Switzerland and initiates new developments where necessary and important. It sets national goals and specifies the players responsible for implementing them. It contributes towards implementing the United Nations guidelines on HIV/AIDS. The programme concentrates on the three core fields of prevention, therapy and counselling, as well as solidarity.

    En este documento se tratan las consecuencias de los roles de género femenino y masculino, las relaciones de poder y el comportamiento sexual en la propagación del VIH/SIDA en América Latina y el Caribe y se explora la vulnerabilidad de la mujer a la epidemia. Se abordan también otros temas, como violencia, sexo comercial y turismo sexual, tráfico de seres humanos, desplaciamento de poblaciones y crisis en el marco de la sensibilidad de las mujeres y los hombres al VIH/SIDA.
