  3. Report of the mid-term review of the national HIV and AIDS strategic plan 2006-2011

    The multi-sectoral National Strategic Plan (NSP) for HIV and AIDS was developed and launched in 2006. It covers a five-year period from 2006-2011. The NSP was developed through an extensively participatory process following the joint review of the national multi-sectoral response to HIV and AIDS in 2005. From October 2008 to April 2009, the National AIDS Commission in collaboration with its stakeholders and partners who are involved in the national response to the HIV and AIDS commissioned the Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the NSP. …

    This report reviews the documents on behaviour and the epidemic in Swaziland in an attempt to establish what is driving the epidemic. It asks 'What is driving the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Swaziland? What more can we do about it?' Our conclusion is that the epidemic in Swaziland is very serious, but we know what is going on. There are some gaps in the research that need to be addressed but there is enough information available now to act. The workshop we held confirmed this.   5. HIV/AIDS in Addis Ababa: background, projections, impacts and interventions

    The HIV/AIDS epidemic is a very serious problem in Ethiopia. By some estimates, one of every 13 adults in the country is infected with HIV. Yet because Ethiopia is an expansive country with a large, predominantly rural population, the national figures disguise the fact that the epidemic is much more serious in some regions than in others.     This is a report of a symposium on the status and trends of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the world. The symposium was organized in France by the Monitoring the AIDS Pandemic Network. It aimed to foster the exchange of information on status and trends for use by international, national and local bodies. The main topics covered include: 1)the state of the epidemic in 1998; 2)migration and HIV/AIDS; 3)inequities in care and support for those infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS; 4)mother-to-child transmission; 5)HIV transmission in the health care setting; 6)AIDS orphans; 7)interaction between tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS programmes; and 8)general recommendations.
