1. Unintended pregnancy and abortion in Uganda

   Unintended pregnancy is common in Uganda, leading to high levels of unplanned births, unsafe abortions, and maternal injury and death. Because most pregnancies that end in abortion are unwanted, nearly all ill health and mortality resulting from unsafe abortion is preventable. This report summarizes evidence on the context and consequences of unintended pregnancy and unsafe abortion in Uganda, points out gaps in knowledge, and highlights steps that can be taken to reduce levels of unintended pregnancy and unsafe abortion, and, in turn, the high level of maternal mortality.

3. Levels and spread of HIV seroprevalence and associated factors: evidence from national household surveys

   This report summarizes HIV prevalence and the associations between HIV serostatus and key characteristics and behaviors of adult women and men in 22 developing countries, primarily in sub- Saharan Africa. Data come from Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and AIDS Indicator Surveys (AIS) conducted between 2001 and 2006. In most of these surveys, nationally representative samples of women age 15-49 and men age 15-59 were tested for HIV. …

4. Myanmar: reproductive health baseline community survey 2002

   The report presents findings of the 2002 reproductive health baseline community survey carried out in townships under the UNFPA project. The main objectives of the survey is to find out knowledge, attitude and practice related to reproductive health, STD, HIV/AIDS, maternal health and contraception. The study will provide baseline information for evaluating the progress in the level of knowledge and behaviour change on the reproductive health in those township communities at the end of the project in 2005.

   The report presents the findings and recommendations for the reproductive health needs assessment in Myanmar in terms of four priority areas of reproductive health: maternal health, birth spacing, HIV/AIDS, and adolescent reproductive health.

7. Lao reproductive health survey 2000 (LRHS 2000)

   The LRHS 2000, funded by UNFPA was undertaken with the purpose of providing up-to-date information on fertility levels, determinants of fertility, fertility preferences, family planning, infant and child mortality, reproductive health and child health, including breastfeeding, and knowledge of RTIs/STDs and HIV/AIDS. The information is intended to assist policy makers and programme managers in planning, designing, managing and evaluating programmes. It is also meant to improve birth spacing/family planning services in the country.
