The National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan for 2006-2009 is intended as a resource to enhance the Marshall Islands response to addressing HIV/AIDS in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. This plan is a community response to HIV, and will attempt to address the decisive geographic, socio-cultural, political, economic, health and legal factors which may impact the spread of HIV using Marshallese values and beliefs as the backbone to the response.
The authors evaluate the impact of a health information intervention implemented through mobile phones, using a clustered randomized control trial augmented by qualitative interviews. The intervention aimed to improve sexual health knowledge and shift individuals towards safer sexual behavior by providing reliable information about sexual health. The novel technology designed by Google and Grameen Technology Center provided automated searches of an advice database on topics requested by users via SMS. It was offered by MTN Uganda at no cost to users.

The authors present data from operations research into the introduction of male circumcision (MC) in Zambia, assessing informed consent (IC) procedures for adolescent MC clients. They administered a comprehension test among adult (n=311) and adolescent (n=115) clients at 10 clinics around Lusaka between the counseling and IC process. They conducted semi-structured interviews with adolescent (1317 years) MC clients 1 week post-surgery (n=28) and 13 key informants (service providers and stakeholders). …
Fulaas is one of our community based distributors. He’s also a volunteer. This film follows him as he dispenses family planning advice and contraceptives to villagers in Oromo, Ethiopia. Without Fulaas, and others like him, there would be very little access to contraception in rural Ethiopia. Development depends on getting the right supplies - contraceptives, condoms, medicines, and equipment – to the people who need them most. And that depends on our volunteers. They are part of the largest voluntary organization in sexual and reproductive health and rights. …
Evolution of Thailand's strategy to cope with the HIV/AIDS epidemic. HIV/AIDS has led to incalculable human suffering and social disruption, as well as huge economic costs. By acknowledging the problem early and creating a comprehensive strategy, Thailand has become the first country in the developing world where declines in HIV prevalence are seen nationally and the HIV epidemic has been successfully controlled through a prevention strategy. Due in part to U.S. assistance on the policy front, the Vietnamese National Assembly enacted a more progressive, health- and rights-oriented national law regarding HIV/AIDS in mid-2006. Significantly, the new law officially endorses an array of specific HIV prevention activities for groups with high-risk behaviors. Ultimately, the policy environment in which donors and NGOs operate appears to be improving dramatically and holds promise for managing the epidemic as long as there is improved coordination among all actors.

Ce guide se divise en trois chapitres: 1) Chapitre1 : Vue d'ensemble de suivi et d'évaluation; 2) Chapitre 2: Suivi et évaluation des programmes de conseil et de dépistage volontaire; 3) Chapitre3 : Suivi et évaluation des programmes de soins cliniques. L'élaboration de ce manuel est faite pour être adapté aux programmes VIH et sida en Egypte.
