    Success stories presented in this report should help the Government, stakeholders and service providers to be more efficient in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The present document describes five best practices selected among the 30 interventions. The first case presented in this document is the intervention implemented in Nyamagabe District. This focuses on sensitization of PAGOR project beneficiaries on HIV/AIDS.   8. Key findings on HIV prevention information needs in Lesotho

    Data was collected in late 2009 using qualitative research methods. Eleven key informant interviews were conducted with policy makers, opinion leaders, program managers, and development partners, all working on HIV and AIDS activities at the national level. Each was based in Maseru, though some of their work covered both rural and urban areas. Four focus group discussions (FGDs) were also conducted with a total of 17 participants. …

  11. Evaluation of a school-based HIV prevention intervention among Yemeni adolescents

    This article describes an evaluation of a school-based peer education intervention for HIV prevention among students in 27 high schools in Aden, Yemen. The intervention was developed after a survey among the same population in 2005, which revealed a high level of stigma toward people living with HIV (PLWH) and a low level of HIV knowledge. In a quasi-experimental design, students who received the peer education intervention (78.6%) were compared with students who did not receive the intervention (21.4%). No systematic procedure was applied in selecting students for the intervention condition. …

  12. Evolution of China's response to HIV/AIDS

    This documents talks about Four factors which have driven China's response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic: (1) existing government structures and networks of relationships; (2) increasing scientific information; (3) external influences that underscored the potential consequences of an HIV/AIDS pandemic and thus accelerated strategic planning; and (4) increasing political commitment at the highest levels. China's response culminated in legislation to control HIV/AIDS - the AIDS Prevention and Control Regulations. Three major initiatives are being scaled up concurrently. …

    This report contains a review of the state of social and political science research on HIV and AIDS. Its aim was to assess the state of the field so that the International AIDS Society can better encourage and support social and political science research through its activities, particularly its international conferences. The review analyzes the most commonly published types of social and political science research on HIV and invited international experts to consider challenges and opportunities within the field.
