On 4 June, the Georgian pianist and UNESCO Artist for Peace Elisso Bolkvadze performed at UNESCO Headquarters on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia.

Eminent personalities including H.E. Mr Levan Kharatichvili, Vice-Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia, H.E. Ms Khatuna Totladze, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and H.E. Ms Ecaterine Siradze-Delaunay, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Georgia to UNESCO, were present for the celebration.

In her opening speech, H.E. Mrs Ecaterine Siradze-Delaunay payed tribute to the remarkable work that Ms Bolkvadze continues to achieve in the field of the protection of classical music and the rapprochement of cultures.

In the first part of the concert, Ms Bolkvadze performed Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 16, Chopin’s “Grande Polonaise brillante” preceded by an Andante Spianato, as well as excerpts from Michel Sogny's main work, "Prolégomènes à une Eidétique Musicale".

The celebration then continued with the Georgian Polyphonic Ensemble "BASIANI", interpreting and rehabilitating the heritage of traditional Georgian Polyphonic Singing, inscribed on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2008.

Elisso Bolkvadze was designated UNESCO Artist for Peace in January 2015, in recognition of her commitment to supporting young talents in their musical education and creativity, particularly through her LYRA Foundation.
