Bibi Russell, a name that has gone from one dizzy height to another. She has been the face of Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and many more. This fashion designer was head hunted at her graduation show at the London College of Fashion in 1976.

Since then, she has enjoyed success as an astounding International super model, with a career spanning from 1976 to 1993, working with top brands.  Modelling was just a small star to the star Bibi wanted to touch. A dream that developed close to her heart gave birth from clouds of dust to a new form of star:Bibi Productions in 1995.

Bibi Productions, a brand that has allowed the age-old heritage of Bengal, weaving and other kinds of crafts, to be revived, giving craftsmen the opportunity to articulate their dreams. Bengali Craftsmen have marvelled people around the world for centuries. Exquisite hand-woven muslin, Jamdani, raw as well as refined silks, a wide range of Khadi, and extremely fine cottons, have earned Bengali artisans a place of honour in world culture.   Bibi began her journey to represent the vivid colours of Bangladesh, to recognize the heritage that they fully deserve and to give craftsmen the golden opportunity to enhance their considerable skills in order to achieve economic survival and to build towards a prosperous future. Bibi Productions’ first ready to wear collection ‘Weavers of Bangladesh’ was launched at UNESCO headquarters in Paris in 1996. With the support of Mr Federico Mayor, Bibi’s work was then branded under the slogan ‘Fashion for Development’. UNESCO has supported several shows in Europe including London Fashion Week. Bibi’s reputable brand has provided work for thousands of weavers and artisans.

Bibi started her dream of eradicating poverty by using culture and creativity in her own country, Bangladesh. Bibi’s efforts to take into consideration our environment, by developing outstanding handloom fabrics with colours that are non-chemically produced, has not gone unnoticed. Bibi’s fight to conquer poverty through creativity is spreading like a contagious smile in places such as India (Rajasthan, Kolkata), Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Africa, Latin America (especially in Colombia), Denmark and Europe. Bibi has worked closely with the craftsmen of these countries to revive their craftsmanship.

A very graceful, humble and modest Bibi has gained endless awards, respect and recognition for her achievements. Her Extraordinary passion and belief that fashion can be used for social good and for a positive movement has touched people around the world.

“When people see my collections, I want them to understand and appreciate all the work and effort that has gone into them. I want to preserve the heritage of my country, foster creativity, provide employment, empower women and contribute towards the eradication of poverty. That’s what I’m committed to doing.”
