This study sought to provide evidence whether eLearning compared to classroom instruction improved HIV knowledge uptake among learners between ages 11 – 16 years. Based on the study’s findings, the supporting education departments are strongly advised to consider implementing eLearning as a technique to transfer HIV knowledge to adolescents using a culturally-adapted and interactive platform.
The purpose of this study was to compare two different methods to teach educators about HIV/AIDS. Sixty educators were selected from eight schools in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa, to undergo HIV/AIDS training using an interactive CD-ROM intervention. The objectives were to determine risky sexual behavioural trends and health promotion needs among students, to develop an online HIV/STI prevention programme utilising the NMMU intranet portal. Descriptive data regarding demographics, sexual behaviour, internet usage and the relevance of various health promotion messages were included in an online questionnaire. Objective: To evaluate a four-hour life-skills-based HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum among 5th grade students in rural primary schools of Hainan province. Methods: The study included two stages. Stage one (September 2006-May 2007) was a pre-post-quasi experimental design; a total of 2 413 students aged 9 to 14 years from fifth grade classes of nine primary schools completed a baseline survey (1 720 students were in the intervention group, 693 in the control group), and over 98% of them took part in a short survey. The Learning about Living (LaL) Nigeria project was initially piloted in Lagos and Cross River States, and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, from 2007 to 2009 and coordinated by OneWorld UK (OWUK).
