Learning about how to teach the universal principles of bioethics
Imagine the participants from Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, Georgia, Israel, Portugal, South Africa, Turkey, and the United States of America in the same classroom, learning about how to teach the universal principles of bioethics. Such a unique exercise in learning is taking place this week, from 30 June to 4 July 2014, at the Inter-University Center in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It is the result of a collaborative effort involving UNESCO, the Croatian National Commission for UNESCO, the University of Croatia and the Inter-University Center in Dubrovnik.
This is one of a series of UNESCO Ethics Teachers Training Courses which bring together participants from every region of the world for a one week learning engagement, where they learn from prominent ethics professors about how to effectively teach ethics, and how to disseminate universal bioethical norms and principles through education.
The courses are part of UNESCO’s Bioethics Programme to support and promote quality ethics education around the world by building professional capacities of teachers. The graduates become natural partners of UNESCO by applying concretely the bioethical norms and principles as described in the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights.
Ethics Teachers Training Courses are organized by UNESCO’s Bioethics Programme all over the world. In 2014, courses are planned to be held in Amman, Jordan (19-23 October); Egerton, Kenya (10-14 November); Dar es Salam, Tanzania (1-5 December); and Muscat, Oman (7-11 December).
