5th Interregional Meeting of National Commissions for UNESCO

The Fifth Interregional Meeting of National Commissions for UNESCO, co-organized by the UNESCO Secretariat and the Kenyan National Commission for UNESCO, took place from 19 to 21 June in Diani, Kenya.

The main objectives of the meeting were improving coordination and networking among National Commissions of all regions, leveraging their role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, as well as engaging National Commissions in the Strategic Transformation process designed to improve UNESCO’s operational efficiency and means of action.

Heads and members of about 95 National Commissions representing all five regional groups of UNESCO (Europe and North America, Latin America and Caribbean, Asia and Pacific, Africa, and Arab States) attended the meeting.

UNESCO delegation headed by Nicolas Kassianides, Assistant Director-General of External Relations and Public Information a.i., also included 13 Directors of UNESCO Multisectoral and Regional Offices in the field.
