Each year, IOC's Executive Council reviews issues and items from on-going work plans, and makes preparations for the Assemblies, which meet once per biennium.
Discussions at this year’s Executive Council will cover, inter alia, the following topics:

⁃ UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030)
⁃ Second edition of the Global Ocean Science Report

⁃ Ocean literacy
⁃ Global Climate Observing System
⁃ World Climate Research Programme
